MARMORA – Trinity United Methodist Church in Marmora will host Spring Sing, April 25, 2015 at 4:00 p.m., featuring internationally acclaimed Neumann University Concert Chorale, under the direction of Yukiko Ishida, DMA, and accompanist Robert Nester.
For 39 years, the Neumann University Concert Chorale has celebrated the joy of singing by uniting community and students in the experience of group and ensemble singing. The Chorale’s musical accomplishments include excerpts from Messiah by Handel, a performance of Mass No. 2, G Major, D.167 by Schubert, Ein Deutsches Requiem by Brahms, The Requiem Mass in D minor, K.626 by Mozart, and Mass in C Major, Op. 86 by Beethoven. The Chorale has performed internationally in Canada, Germany, Japan and the Czech Republic and made its debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2007.
In the Franciscan tradition of service to others, the Chorale sings frequently at the Assisi House, Bishop Nursing Home and the Bellingham and Wellington Retirement Communities. Since Sept. 11, 2001, the Chorale has given two benefit concerts to honor those who lost their lives in that tragedy. The Chorale also performs in the Neumann University’s Meagher Theatre for their annual holiday and spring concerts. This is the Chorale’s second concert at Trinity United Methodist Church.
Dr. Ishida, a coloratura soprano, was born in Kumamoto, Japan. She received a Bachelor of Music in Piano Education from Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo. She studied in London, and earned her Master’s degree in voice at Temple University. She earned her doctorate in Musical Arts from Combs College of Music and continued her voice study with David Lofton in the USA and Madga Lazlo, Arigo Pola, Eugenio Furlotti and Rafaele Cortesis in Italy. Dr. Ishida the recipient of numerous awards, including the Combs College Centennial Award, the Liberace Competition, the Cascarino Memorial Competition and the Mario Lanza Competition. She is also Minister of Music at Union Methodist Church in Havertown, PA. For several summers she was the vocal instructor of the International Chamber Festival in Evian, France and director of the Chiose Higher Education in Japan. She has performed in the Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States.
Admission to Spring Sing is free and refreshments will be served immediately following the concert in the Trinity Fellowship Hall. A love offering will be collected to benefit the victims of the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami disaster and the Future with Hope Mission of the United Methodist Church.
