COURT HOUSE – The Jersey Shore Pops, in conjunction with the Middle Township Performing Arts Center, will present a holiday concert in tribute to Malala with their concert entitled “Joy to the World” on Sat., Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Middle Township Performing Arts Center, Exit 10 off Garden State Parkway. This orchestral concert will be a collaboration with the Atlantic Youth Orchestra and the Elementary #2 Harmony Choir under the direction of Jay Wynn & Kathleen Watt.
Joining in this special tribute concert will be soprano Jacklyn Buckingham and Tenor Frank Hampton of Avalon. A special mutli-media video presentation has been set to music in honor of Malala’s recovery and rehabilitation. The conductor and musical director of the orchestra Linda Gentille was in Asia when the shooting occurred and was so moved by the world wide outpouring of support for Malala made her decide to dedicate the holiday concert to this brave girl.
“I was so moved by this amazing girl and the miracle which saved her that I had to do something to join the rest of the world in supporting her,” Gentille states. “We had planned to collaborate with the Middle Township Elementary #2 Harmony Choir and thought this would be a perfect tribute piece for Malala: The Prayer.”
Malala was gaining notoriety in Pakistan for her fight for equal education rights for girls in her country when she was brutally attacked and shot in the head at point blank range. The fact that she lived through this attack is nothing less than a miracle. But her road to recovery will be long and hard for the next year. The outpouring of support around the world has been overwhelming as she has touched lives in every country and continent.
Advance tickets prices range from $25 for balcony seats to $40 for orchestra center seats. Student tickets are available along with group tickets for $22.
