THIS WEEKEND: Vegetable Takes Over West Cape May, Flowerheads Rock Wildwood

By Jack Fichter

While there are fewer events this weekend than past weeks, perfect weather should enhance two events combining food and live music.
West Cape May Lima Bean Festival will take place Sat., Oct. 8 in Wilbraham Park in West Cape May.
This is an all day event from 9-5 p.m. featuring everything lima! Lima bean t-shirts, lima bean chili, lima bean taco soup, lima bean jewelry, lima bean stained glass, lima bean birdhouses, lima bean pottery and this year a special treat, lima bean ice cream from Bliss of Cape May. And of course fresh lima beans! Almost 100 vendors will also sell barbeque, crab cakes, smoothies, flowers, produce, collectibles, antiques and art.
Entertainment is by Bluebone and Robin Hippel and Amy Hufana. The 2011 Lima Bean King and Queen will be crowned at 3 p.m.
West Cape May was once the lima bean capital of the world and this autumn tradition of celebrating the lima bean harvest has turned into a much loved quirky community event. For more information call Diane Flanegan at 609-884-9325.
The Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce presents the 4th Annual Seafood and Music Festival Sat., Oct. 8 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. featuring a full day of eating, dancing and all-out fun that will take place along Atlantic Avenue between Wildwood and Schellenger Avenues in Wildwood.
The festival will include live music, crafters, food vendors, pie eating contests, a clam chowder contest and much more. A Kids Korner, with children’s activities, including pumpkin painting, face painting, inflatable bouncers and cotton candy, will take place from noon-4 p.m.
Free live musical entertainment for the day includes Frank Bey and The Swing City Blues Band, The Goodtymes Band, Large Flowerheads, Bandstand, and The Rocktologists.
The 4th Annual Seafood and Music Festival, complete with great seafood, great music, messy pie-filled faces and out-of-this-world clam chowder, is free to attend.
