CAPE MAY — On Sat., Oct. 19, a violin and piano concert given by Access to Art, Inc. will present Dr. Bert Greenspan, violin, and Elise Auerbach, piano, as they explore the depth of Romanticism. Dr. Bert Greenspan taught for generations at Rowan University, and Elise Auerbach, a Philadelphia performer, studied at Temple University and received her MM in Music from the University of Cincinnati Conservatory.
The concert will be held at the Cape Island Baptist Church at Gurney and Columbia Streets, Cape May, N.J. Parking is available behind the church.
Dr. Greenspan is currently performing with Opera Naples and with the Southwest Symphony in Fort Myers. Elise recently performed at Temple University, and performs with many musical associations in Philadelphia. Dr. Greenspan is an undergraduate from Juilliard, with a doctorate in performance from Indiana University. He performs currently at Opera Naples and the Southwest Symphony in Fort Myers, Florida. Dr. Greenspan conducted two lecture/demonstrations on the Italian Renaissance and the English Renaissance for Access to Art at the Southern Mansion.
Dr. Greenspan, who never leaves a teaching moment unattended, will speak about the period of Romanticism in music, with commentary on women as muses and musicians, while demonstrating the beauty of the period on violin and piano. Schubert and Mozart will be featured.
Access will also present a dinner at Union Park on Oct. 26 featuring Michael Ludwig, celebrated international violinist, and former Associate concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Michael is now enjoying an international career as a soloist and recorded the American Rhapsody by Kenneth Fuchs, composer, at the London Symphony Orchestra a year or so ago. He performed in Kiev this summer, and has performed on his late 1700’s rare violin made by the Cremonese master Lorenzo Storioni and a Dominique Peccatte bow. He has been featured numerous times on Performance Today, a program that reaches 1.2 million listeners on 230 radio stations nationwide. Ludwig’s discography has drawn critical acclaim from both sides of the Atlantic. Fanfare magazine writes: “His phrasing is so sensitive–it could serve as a object lesson to every budding violinist.” And BBC Music Magazine praises his “persuasive playing, silky tone, sensitivity to colour and flair for golden-age style.”
Concert tickets are $20. Adults, $15. Seniors and may be purchased at the door from 6 p.m. on Oct. 19. Tickets for the three course dinner are $70.
