Vermont Ave, Rio Grande, Feb. 16, to see “Akeelah and the Bee,” starring Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne. A true story, 11-year-old Akeelah Anderson is determined to spell her way out of South Los Angeles and make it to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC. With a tutor behind her, Akeelah may even show her pessimistic mother she has what it takes to win. Rated PG.
There is no charge and the evening is open to everyone. Movie goers can bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. Movie time is 7 p.m.
