COURT HOUSE – The Sweet Adelines Cape Shore Chorus, which this year finished 15th in the world in an international competition among small women’s barbershop choruses, will bring its act to the Performing Arts Center of Middle Township on Saturday night, Nov. 19 at 7:00 p.m.
The 20-member chorus, which was chartered in Cape May County in 1989, will present a concert titled “Rain or Shine” under the direction of Wildwood Crest’s Jayne McDonough who also is a music teacher in West Cape May and Cape May. The concert will be the eighth annual for the chorus at PAC which will mark its 20th anniversary next year.
The chorus is part of the Sweet Adelines International Organization and earlier this year scored third in the regional competition in Ocean City, Md. and 15th among 300 international small groups throughout the world. It also performed this summer at Ocean City, N.J., Cape May and Sea Isle City.
The Sweet Adelines are a world-wide organization of women singers dedicated to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance. It is one of the world’s largest singing organizations for women and it exists on five continents with more than 500 choruses and 1,200 quartets. They sing barber shop style with four part harmony music.
“Our members come from Cape May, Cumberland and Camden Counties, “said Brenda Cunningham, organization president of Cape May Court House. “This has been a busy year and a happy one for us because we enjoy singing and it has provided us and others with a rich, rewarding experience.”
