COURT HOUSE – Summer officially ended on Sept. 22, but memories will live on at Middle Township High School on Nov. 3, 4 and 5 when 24 high school students, one from Australia, will present their version of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
The Shakespeare production at the high school’s Performing Arts Center will be presented by the school’s drama club under the direction of Elizabeth Volpe, who has been teaching theatre, TV Broadcasting and English at the high school since 2006.
The performances are open to the public. Curtain times are 7 p.m. on Nov. 3 and 4 and at 2 and 7 p.m. on Nov. 5.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens. Call 463-1924 for tickets.
Kay Aspell, managing director of PAC, said the performances are part of the dual mission of PAC, soon to mark its 20th anniversary, to use the state-of-the-art theater for school events as well as for professional productions. Aspell, a former teacher at Middle Township High School, also directs middle grade students in their annual spring plays at PAC. Next year’s spring production is “Seussical.”
Music teacher Debbie Jenkins Dalfonso directs big scale high school cast musicals such as “How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying,” which also will be presented next spring.
The cast of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will have an international flavor to it. Among the actors will be foreign exchange student Erica Tilse of Australia.
