His first Church after graduation from Seminary was St. Simeons in Wildwood, but it’s the St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in the Villas, a church he helped build from scratch, where he became Vicar and a beloved part of the church and secular community. I am speaking of Father William Shelton. Not only did he have a passion for his faith, but also for art.
From a small circle of parishioners who met one a week to discuss art in the late 1950s, a real group of painters evolved and painted weekly in his Vicarage. Every year the St. Barnabas Artists held a fabulous art exhibit. When Father Shelton passed in 2000, the artists continued to paint and exhibit.
This year the artists will exhibit their artwork at the home of Fury Feraco at 2723 Bay Drive in Fishing Creek, August 6 and 7 from 10 till 6. Come enjoy the art, meet the artists and help celebrate Father Shelton’s beautiful vision and this artistic tradition that began 50 years ago. Refreshments will be served.
