CAPE MAY – Guy Harvey is a unique blend of artist, scientist, diver, angler, conservationist and explorer. For the past 20 years, he has made regular appearances at the Mid-Atlantic $500,000 fishing tournament. Until this year only tournament participants had access to the famous artist and his work. However, this year, (weather permitting) Guy Harvey artwork, prints, posters, clothing and the artist himself will be available to the public on Tue., Aug. 23 and Wed., Aug. 24.
Guy has always been obsessed with the creatures of the sea and his artwork can be found in art exhibits, galleries, stores, restaurants, and fishing tournaments as well as his own unique clothing line. An avid scuba diver and skilled underwater photographer, he pioneered a technique of diving and photographing free-swimming billfish, which has enabled him to recreate details in his work, previously unattainable.
Guy’s passion for the beauty and wonder of the underwater world has driven him to be a leading conservationist and advocate for the preservation of all sea creatures and their environment. Educated in Marine Biology at the University of Scotland, Guy continued his formal training and obtained a Doctorate in Fisheries Management from the University of West Indies. Today he dedicates much of his talent, time and resources to programs that protect our oceans, fish populations and reef systems. The Guy Harvey Research Institute and the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation have taken leadership roles in providing the scientific information necessary in this pursuit.
Fishing around for the perfect gift for the angler in your family? Why not come out and catch something they will really enjoy, and spend an afternoon with Guy Harvey.
Guy is scheduled to appear from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. on Aug. 23 – 24 at the South Jersey Ships Store, 1231 Highway 109 in Cape May
