CAPE MAY – Cape May Stage, Cape May’s premier professional Equity theatre, is offering a discounted performance this month by hosting a special matinee of theatre. The theatre’s production of “The Belle of Amherst”, William Luce’s story of Emily Dickinson, now playing at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse, has scheduled a half-price ‘Senior Matinee’ on Sun., Oct. 21.
On Sun., Oct. 21, seniors, 62 and over, are invited to attend a 3 p.m. performance at the discounted rate of $15 per ticket (that’s 50% off regular box office prices). ‘Senior Matinees’ sell out very quickly, so reservations are a must!
Hailed by the NY Daily News as “magnificent… An arresting, riveting experience,” playwright William Luce brilliantly weaves Dickinson’s poetry and writings into a two-act play that leaves audiences spellbound. Set in the parlor of the Dickinson home in Amherst, Massachusetts, audiences quickly realize they are part of the play. Played by Broadway actress Barbara Dana, Emily interacts directly with the audience as she grows from a girl of 15 to her death at age 55 in 1886. Directed by Austin Pendleton whose credits include three Tony-nominated Broadway productions, Emily relives the greatest joys and deepest despairs of her life with humor, insight, and most notably with her unique and mysterious perspectives on love and death.
Cape May Stage encourages seniors 62+ to take advantage of this upcoming special half-price promotion on Oct. 21.
“The Belle of Amherst” runs from Wed., Oct. 17 to Sat., Oct. 27, Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m. at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse at 405 Lafayette Street in downtown Cape May. Tickets are $35 adults, $30 seniors (62+), and $15 students. Call (609) 884-1341 for reservations and information or visit the theatre’s website, www.capemaystage.org.
