Sea Isle City to Host Annual Community Day May 18

By Press Release

SEA ISLE CITY – On May 18, Sea Isle City’s 4th Annual Community Day will take place at the resort’s Community Lodge, located at 300 JFK Boulevard, between 10:00 a.m. and 12 noon. Hosted by Mayor Leonard Desiderio and the City’s Administration, Community Day will give the public the opportunity to meet with City department heads and other municipal officials, speak with FEMA representatives, learn about Sea Isle’s many Civic groups, safely destroy personal documents, and speak with officials from a variety of organizations in the region, including the Wetlands Institute, CASA and the Cape May County Library System. There will also be an awards ceremony, a flag-pole dedication, tours of Sea Isle’s new Welcome Center and other enjoyable activities.
The Sea Isle City Police Department will welcome families to the Community Lodge on May 18 by offering free children’s fingerprinting, bicycle registrations and car seat safety checks. There will also be face painters and other family enjoyment during Community Day, including the chance to sign-up for summer recreation programs and learn about Sea Isle’s many other seasonal activities.
The Cape May County SWAT Team will also participate in Community Day, as will the Cape May County Sheriff’s Mounted Division (including Dodge the Horse) and the Sheriff’s Explorers.
Along with representatives from the event’s many other participating organizations, FEMA officials will be located inside the Community Lodge, where they will answer general questions, including inquiries about FEMA’s new Flood Insurance Rate Maps and other related topics. Representatives from Sea Isle’s Construction Office will also be on hand to answer questions from property owners.
Community Day’s “Document Shredding Event,” sponsored by First Bank of Sea Isle City, will take place in the Community Lodge parking lot, where local residents and property owners can destroy unwanted personal documents for free (with proof of residency or property-ownership in Sea Isle City). The shredding event will happen between 9:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and each local household will be permitted to destroy up to two “banker boxes” filled with paperwork.
The members of Boy Scout Troop 76 will also be found in the Community Lodge parking lot on May 18, where they will sell food and cold drinks to help raise funds for future scouting events.
At 10:00 a.m. on Community Day, City Council will hold a regular public meeting inside Council Chambers, 4501 Park Road. Also that morning, Mayor Desiderio will officially dedicate the flag pole in front of the new Welcome Center (located adjacent to the Community Lodge) in honor of the Sea Isle City Women’s Civic Club, the City’s longest-standing civic organization. Later, the mayor will honor the winner’s of his “Do the Right Thing Award,” which spotlights local students who perform good deeds in the community. Additionally, representatives from First Bank of Sea Isle City will present their annual Community Partnership Award – and a sizable cash donation – to a local civic organization; and the Sea Isle City Chamber of Commerce and Revitalization will honor the recipients of their 2013 College Scholarship Awards.
