Sea Isle City Beach Patrol to Host 41st Annual 10-Mile Island Run on August 6

By Press Release

SEA ISLE CITY – On Saturday, August 6, the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol’s 41st Annual Captain Bill Gallagher 10-Mile Island Run will begin at 5:45 p.m. in front of the SICBP’s Headquarters, 44th Street and the Beach. The race will occur rain or shine, however an electrical storm may necessitate the postponement of the competition until the first evening that conditions permit. The yearly run, which takes place on a traffic-free, flat course, begins on the Sea Isle City Promenade and ends on the 44th Street Beach.
Each year, the 10-Mile Island Run attracts over 1500 athletes, who compete for cash prizes, including $250 for first place, $150 for second and $75 for third. Runners in firefighter, police and lifeguard divisions will receive prizes as well, and trophies will also be awarded to the top athletes in various age divisions and the top-ten overall runners.
Individual athletes can register for the 2011 10-Mile Island Run online at www.sicbp.com for $20 prior to August 2. The mail-in and in-person pre-registration fee is $25 (if entries are post-marked or delivered by July 29). Post-registration after July 29 is $30.
Online team and running club pre-registration is $22 per person prior to August 2. The entry fee for team or club members mailing-in registrations or registering in-person prior to July 29 is $27. Post- registration for team or club members is $32.00 after July 29.
All entry fees are non-refundable. Checks should be made payable to “Sea Isle City Beach Patrol.”
The race features chip-timing and digital clocks that provide runners with their current times at each mile marker. There will be plenty of water stations positioned along the race course and refreshments will be served to participants afterwards near the finish line. Compuscore Computer Services, www.compuscore.com, will provide race results and finishing times online after the event.
According to SICBP Captain Renny Steele, the Captain Bill Gallagher 10-Mile Island Run is a popular competition for numerous reasons. “The Island Run is different from many other running races,” he said. “There is an enormous number of spectators lining the course and cheering for the runners, and many parties along the course have an island run theme. Also, there are no cars to contend with and the beach front provides a beautiful setting in which to run.”
