Little Anthony and the Imperials, originally from New York, began performing Doo Wop as the Imperials in 1958. The name Little Anthony was coined by Brooklyn D.J. Alan Freed while introducing their debut record Tears On My Pillow. The song peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1958.
Other big hits included Shimmy Shimmy Ko-Ko-Bop, Goin’ Out Of My Head and Hurt So Bad. Little Anthony and the Imperials were inducted into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.
The Temptations were one of the most successful acts to sign with Motown Records, with 37 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts and 71 hits on the Billboard R&B Soul Charts, along with four No. 1 hits on the Hot 100 and 14 No. 1 hits on the R&B Soul Charts. The Temptations Review features Dennis Edwards, the lead singer picked to replace David Ruffin in 1968.
The Spinners, originally from Detroit, were formed in 1961 and signed with Tri Phi Records, which was subsequently bought out by Motown Records in 1963. The group left Motown in 1972 and signed with Atlantic Records and became known as one of the greatest soul groups of the 1970’s. The group, today, has two original members remaining – lead singer Bobby Smith and Henry Fambrough.
The Spinners had seven Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and 19 Top 10 hits on the Soul and R&B charts, including seven No. 1 singles from both charts combined. The Spinners’ biggest hits include Its A Shame, I’ll Be Around, Could It Be I’m Falling In Love (With You), Then Came You, Games People Play and Working My Way Back To You.
Don’t miss this Labor Day Weekend concert featuring three legendary groups, four decades of music, and fifty smash hit records all under one roof for a magical night of memorable music and entertainment.
