Repertory Theater Announces ‘3rd Rock’ Musical Mondays

By Press Release

OCEAN CITY – The Ocean City Repertory Theater has added another event to its successful Musical Mondays series.
Young rock and roll artists will take the stage May 16th for Musical Mondays – 3rd Rock – which will be presented the third Monday of each month at the theater.
“I’m thrilled to provide these young artists a place to perform,” said Flossi Micciolo, founder and artistic director of Ocean City Repertory Theater. “You really can’t grow as an artist without performing in front of an audience.”
Performing a blend of alternative and rock and roll, Outlet will take the stage May 16th.
The band is made up of brothers Tyler, 18, and Ken Young, 19, who hail from Tuckahoe; and their cousin, Josh Wise, 17, of Petersburg, NJ.
Ken Young explained that Outlet started performing together for fun approximately 15 months ago.
“We had another band,” he said. “Then we started playing together for different things and realized that we wanted to get more serious about it. … The family’s influence was definitely a factor.”
Wise heads up vocals and guitar, with Tyler Young on bass guitar and Ken Young on drums. Since the band started, the group has fully composed approximately 15 original songs with several others in development.
“We write songs together,” Tyler Young said. “Sometimes we do all of it together. Other times, one of us does the melody and the others work together to come up with lyrics.”
Outlet has performed at several establishments in and around south Jersey. The Repertory Theater will be the band’s first regular venue.
“We’ve performed for local bars and restaurants for different events and benefits,” Ken Young said. “We are really looking forward to playing for a different kind of crowd.”
“It is going to be great to perform 3rd Rock Mondays,” Wise said. “We think everyone will have a great time.”
Taking the stage with Outlet for the performance will be Ross Blvd. The band is made up of 17-year old Adam Somers, drummer, of Marmora; 16-year-old Ed Albright, guitar and vocals, of Ocean City; and 17-year-old Steve Skiscim, bass, of Petersburg.
“Steve and I have played music together forever,” Somers said. “We began playing outside of school during 8th-grade year.”
This past year, Somers said he started spending more time with Skiscim.
“We were bored one day and figured out that we both love music,” Somers said. “He came over one day and we played music together. We fell in love with the sounds… and kept playing. We wouldn’t have our band any other way.”
Somers said Ross Blvd. is also looking forward to performing at the Repertory Theater.
“We would like to see what kind of crowd will come out and how intense the show will be in a small place like that,” he said. “I love the fact that I’m playing with my cousin’s band (Outlet).”
Musical Mondays – 3rd Rock – will be held on the third Monday of every month at the Repertory Theater in downtown Ocean City. The black box theater is located at 813 Asbury Ave.
The shows will start at 7 p.m. Admission for the May16th show will be $5.
