Atlantic City, NJ – The Atlantic City Arts Commission and The Noyes Museum of Art of Richard Stockton College announce that the judges of the September 7th Atlantic City Boardwalk Art Show will be some of the winners from previous Atlantic City Boardwalk Art Shows. Lance Balderson, Edward Cornell and Stephen Scheiderman will be judging the Boardwalk Art Show. A reception celebrating the revival of the Atlantic City Boardwalk Art Show will be Friday, September 6 from 5:30pm-7:30pm at Dante Hall, where the participating artists and sponsors will enjoy light refreshments and have a meet and greet prior to the show.
Artist Lance Balderson, whose residence and studio is located in Oceanview, New Jersey, has his paintings in permanent collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Columbia University School of Law and the Woodmere Art Gallery, just to name a few. His paintings have also been purchased by over 450 clients worldwide and hang in the City Hall in Atlantic City and in many restaurants and galleries throughout the region. He has developed a style that ranges from the cubist characteristics of Abstract expressionism to the more subtle coloristic forms of Impressionism and incorporates layers of color with overlapping shapes and forms that reference his previous architectural career. Balderson said, “I was very happy to hear that they are bringing the arts and AC Boardwalk Art Show back to Atlantic City. The show and those involved were an inspiration to me.”
Edward Cornell, a resident of Collingswood, New Jersey, is currently an Adjunct Professor of Video Art at the Richard Stockton College, Visual Arts Program in Galloway, and a Video Producer with Stockton Production Services. Cornell received his BFA at Tyler School of Art and his MFA at California Institute of the Arts. A former winner of the Atlantic City Art Show, Cornell says, “Winning at the Boardwalk Show set the focus for my entire creative life. The artists I met there had a big impact on my future work.” His work includes commercial video production, with solo and traveling exhibitions of Experimental Video nationally and internationally. Between video productions over the years, however, Cornell has always returned to work in the 2D plane, with a renewed concentration in painting recently.
Stephen Scheiderman, a resident of Mays Landing, is known as one of today’s masters of the multiple image print. Schneiderman, a graduate of Temple University’s Tyler School of Fine Arts, pursued other business interests until 1981 when he devoted himself full time to his lifelong passion: photography. Since then he has written and lectured extensively on his techniques, and has gained international recognition for his magical darkroom creations. This award winning photographer has his work in the permanent art collections of Cape May County, Atlantic County, Atlantic City, Rutgers State College and the Johnson & Johnson Foundation.
The last time there was an Atlantic City Boardwalk Art Show was over 13 years ago. Cindy Mason-Purdie, administrator at the Atlantic County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs, was instrumental in locating and providing information about the previous Boardwalk Art Show winners and events. Mason-Purdie says, “I am so excited to see Atlantic City reviving this tradition and thereby making the arts and the Boardwalk Show available for the community. It is a wonderful opportunity for the many talented local artists to be able to display their art work on the famous Atlantic City Boardwalk and for the visitors and local residents to see what diverse artists we have in this area.”
Michael Cagno Executive Director of Stockton Noyes Museum of Art said, “We are very excited about reviving the tradition of the Atlantic City Boardwalk Art Show and look forward to presenting more cultural opportunities in the Atlantic City Arts District.” According to MK Thomas, Chairman of the Atlantic City Arts Commission, “Many members of the community remember the shows of the past and such an integral role the arts played. We plan on bringing all that back starting with the Boardwalk Art Show and other projects like the Art Box that generate community involvement.”
The Revival of the Atlantic City Boardwalk Art Show Reception will be held at Dante Hall on Friday, September 6 from 5:30-7:30. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by calling The Noyes Museum of Art (609) 652-8848; tickets will also be available for purchase at the door. The AC Boardwalk Art Show is on Saturday, September 7 from 10am until 5pm. The center of the show is located across from Boardwalk Hall and Trump Plaza with entertainment in Kennedy Plaza. It’s a great opportunity for the public to view and purchase fine arts & crafts, while supporting New Jersey and local artists.
