CAPE MAY – The Carriage House Gallery on the grounds of the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., was renamed “The Carroll Gallery” in a dedication ceremony Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. to honor dedicated Cape May historic preservationists, nationally renowned bed & breakfast industry experts, and long-time friends of the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC), Tom and Sue Carroll.
Over 100 friends and supporters paid tribute to Tom and Sue Carroll in ceremony on Friday, Oct. 10 in the Carriage House Café & Tearoom, under the tent. Speakers included MAC Director Michael Zuckerman, Curtis J. Bashaw, Co-Founder and Co-Managing Partner of Cape Advisors and Cape Resorts Group, and MAC Board President Mary McKenney.
“Tom and Sue Carroll continue to have a profound effect on the fiber of Cape May, and by extension, the economic health of our area,” McKenney said. “They passionately took on projects that restored important private and public structures. Their ongoing generosity and volunteerism set standards for future generations. It is only fitting that we honor them with this Gallery which showcases so many Cape May events and celebrates the rich history of this area.”
MAC’s museum gallery has been host to changing exhibits focusing on aspects of Cape May history. Recent exhibits include, “The Way We Were: Cape May County’s Once Thriving Black Business Communities,” in partnership with the Center for Community Arts (Jan. 18 – April 13, 2014); “Cape May Ablaze” (April 25 – Oct. 14, 2014); and the Cape May County Art League’s “Members Fall Fine Arts Show” (Oct. 18 – Nov. 9, 2014). “An Old-fashioned Christmas” Exhibit will be featured Nov. 21 – Jan. 3, 2015.
In addition to The Carroll Gallery, the historic 1876 Carriage House on the estate is also home to the Carriage House Café & Tearoom, and the Carriage House Museum Shop.
The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) is a multifaceted not-for-profit organization committed to promoting the preservation, interpretation, and cultural enrichment of the Cape May region for its residents and visitors. MAC membership is open to all.
