PHOTOS: Wildwoods International Kite Festival

WILDWOOD – During the morning of the unlocking of the ocean May 23, local second graders made kites at the convention center, and after the unlocking, started flying them.
Wildwoods International Kite Festival, the largest kite festival in North America is a competition and an experience for many who want to try out some fun events geared towards introducing new folks, old and young, to the sport. They teach you to Fly Field, Fighter Kite Competition, Candy Drop, Running of the Bols for kids and adults, as well as the Rev Mega Fly.
It was all happening on the Wildwood beaches May 23-May 26. Many on the boardwalk had the thrill of watching single line, dual line and quad line kite flyers perform their aerial acrobatics.
The illuminated kite fly took place at Rio Grande Avenue and the beach May 23 at 9:00 p.m.
May 24 and 25 included the East Coast Stunt Kite Championships on the beach, along with kite exhibits and workshops.
A kite festival auction was held in the Wildwoods Convention Center May 24 featuring many unique kites and collectibles which were auctioned off.
The World Indoor Kite Competition took place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 26 inside the Wildwoods Convention Center where kite fliers showcased their impressive ability to fly a kite without wind.
