UPDATE: Photos by George Capua.
PREVIOUS: The Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce presents the 10th Annual Fabulous ‘50s and Beyond Weekend Oct. 18 and Oct. 19 in the Wildwoods – a two-day celebration paying tribute to the 1950s and highlighting the Wildwoods’ role in the birth of Rock ‘n Roll music.
The fun begins Friday night, Oct. 18, inside the Wildwoods Convention Center with a Dance Party featuring the Nifty ‘50s Dance Band with David Christopher, who is guaranteed to get everyone moving and grooving to classic oldies. The Dance Party takes place from 7 p.m.-11 p.m. and admission is $15 per person.
Oct. 19 will feature an afternoon of outdoor fun and music during the free Fabulous ‘50s Street Fair at Fox Park, located across from the Wildwoods Convention Center on Ocean Avenue from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. The Street Fair will include live entertainment featuring Rave On, The Johnny Cash Show and Lights Out, a tribute to Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, throughout the day. Other attractions include a classic car show, a Doo-Wop ‘50s Bus Tour and a variety of vendors offering ‘50s memorabilia, merchandise, many delicious food options and much more. The Doo-Wop Experience Museum will also be open – where guests can view authentic ‘50s memorabilia, artifacts, room displays, unique items and the amazing i-Wall display of ‘50s history in the Wildwoods.
Saturday evening at 7 p.m., the weekend’s featured event – the Fabulous ‘50s and Beyond Concert – will take place in the Oceanfront Arena at the Wildwoods Convention Center. The star-studded musical line-up for the night will feature Lou Christie (Lightnin’ Strikes, Two Faces Have I, Juke Box Jive), Danny & The Juniors featuring Joe Terry (At The Hop, Rock & Roll Is Here To Stay), Gary Lewis & The Playboys (This Diamond Ring, Everybody Loves a Clown, She’s Just My Style), Russell Thompkins and The New Stylistics (You Make Me Feel Brand New, Rockin Roll Baby, You Are Everything), and Charlie Thomas’ Drifters (Save The Last Dance For Me, Under The Boardwalk, Up on the Roof.)
