Philadelphia Boys Choir to Perform in Cape May

CAPE MAY – Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale, under the musical direction of Jeffrey R. Smith, presents a full- length concert featuring a diversified program of selections on Saturday evening, Aug. 23, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. in the new Cape May Convention Hall in Cape May, NJ. Renowned for its commanding musicianship, intelligence, and interpretive abilities, the Emmy winning and Grammy nominated Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale is composed of eighty boys choir members complemented by a twenty member men’s chorale and Mr. Smith on the piano. This treasured choral group has just completed an extended concert and sightseeing tour in England during July of 2014. Cape May Convention Hall is situated at 714 Beach Avenue which provides exceptional, unparalleled views of the beachfront and the Atlantic Ocean as well as outstanding acoustics.
The Choir’s concert will mark the highlight of “Philadelphia Boys Choir Day in Cape May” as proclaimed by Cape May City Council. As part of their educational and recreational opportunities during this special day, the choir members will be treated to trolley tours of historic Cape May in addition to a wide spectrum of environmental and marine activities prior to enjoying a delicious dinner prepared by acclaimed local chef James Burton.

Tickets can also be obtained online at www.discovercapemaynj.com or can be purchased in person at the Box Office daily at Cape May Convention Hall. All seating will be General Admission Seating only. Tickets are priced at $20.00 for adults, $15.00 for senior citizens, and $10.00 for children 12 years and above. Admission for children under 12 years is free when accompanied by a paying adult. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more persons with the ticket price being $10.00 per person. Doors will open for admission at 7:15 p.m.

Jeffrey R. Smith, Music Director, has firmly established PBCC as one of the most successful boy-choirs in America. Recent engagements also include Carnegie Hall, the Kimmel Center, the Mann Center for Performing Arts, Academy of Music, and Irvine Auditorium. PBCC has collaborated with Philadelphia Orchestra, Peter Nero and the Philly POPS, Pennsylvania Ballet, Opera Company Philadelphia, and Chamber Orchestra Philadelphia. Television appearances include Good Morning America, Saturday Night Live, The Today Show, and numerous local TV appearances. PBCC recently purchased, renovated and moved into a $2 million facility, thereby vastly expanding its ability to add new programs promoting the joy of singing to boys and girls in the Philadelphia region.
PBCC has toured the world since 1968 and appeared in over 63 countries on 6 continents. The Choir was one of the first to make a historic trip to Cuba and has visited China three times. The first trip around the word was in 1977. During a recent tour to Argentina and Uruguay, the Choir received standing ovations at every concert. In 2008, the Choir performed at two prestigious summer festivals: Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany and the Granada Festival in Spain. A successful tour to China was the highlight of 2010, and, in 2011, the PBCC performed at the Grand Teton Festival.
In the summer of 2012, the group traveled to the Baltics, with performances in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Finland, including a private concert for the President of Finland, Sauli Niinistö, and guests. This treasured choral group completed an extended concert and sightseeing tour in France during June and July of 2013. This particular tour included performances at Notre Dame and the D-Day Beaches in Normandy. The Summer highlight for 2014 has been the Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale’s recently completed tour of England in July.
Any boy age 7-12 is welcome to audition to become a part of this area’s finest musical ensemble. No experience necessary. Just a passion for singing, a desire to perform, make new friends, and travel extensively.
