‘Paws For Art’ Free Community Event at WheatonArts April 6

MILLVILLE — Created in partnership with the Cumberland County SPCA, this free community event brings pet owners and their dogs on site for a day of art and fun on April 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guests are invited to participate in the “Wheaton Barks Dog Show” with prizes for adults and children, an agility course, pet supplies and goodies, a children’s art exhibition, and hands-on family activities. Pet food donations are welcome.
The event features:
■ WheatonBarks Dog Show and Parade at 2 p.m. Guest judges are City of Millville Mayor Michael Santiago, Ted Greenberg, Jersey Shore Bureau reporter for WCAU-TV10 in Philadelphia, and Deborah Marko, reporter for Vineland, NJ’s The Daily Journal. Trophies will be awarded in both Adult and Children’s classes in each of the following categories: Best Pet Costume, Macho Mutt, Petite Pup, Prettiest Pooch, Pet and Owner Look-Alike, Tons of Fun, and Senior Pet (adults only). “Top Show Dog” awards will be Best in Show, Top Dog and Sportsmanship. Winners of these three categories will each receive a glass, dog-faced vessel created by WheatonArts Glass Studio artists. Additional trophies will be stoneware pet bowls handcrafted by Erika Pugh, WheatonArts resident associate artist.

Participating merchants and organizations are Abraham Chiropractic, Oxyfresh of NJ, Red Bank Veterinary Hospital, Bruno’s Favorite Treats, Garden State German Shepard Rescue, Pinups For Pitbulls, Puppy Power 4H Club Seeing Eye Project, Pampered Pup, Blind Bob’s Pottery, All They Need Is Love Animal Rescue, Furry Good Dog Treatery, Only Maine Coons Rescue, and Funny Farm Rescue.
For pet safety, all dogs will be required to be on a short, no longer than four-foot, lead. No retractable leashes. Dogs will be allowed in the Glass Studio and the Ceramics Studio. The Cumberland County SPCA will provide volunteers as dog sitters so dog owners may visit the Museum of American Glass and the Museum Stores. Water stations will be located throughout the grounds.
WheatonArts resumes its six-day operating schedule on April 1 with all facilities open for visitation. Hours: Tues. through Sun., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Jan. 4, 2015. Closed Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Open Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day.
