Ocean City’s Doo Dah Parade is ‘Everything and the Kitchen Sink’

By Press Release

OCEAN CITY – In an all out effort to convince the public that Ocean City’s Doo Dah Parade is filled with unique entries, organizers have adopted a slogan for the 27th annual event. It’s “Everything and the Kitchen Sink!” which they claim elevates it beyond “Everything but the Kitchen Sink” just a tad.
To emphasize the claim an authentic kitchen sink will be featured in a convertible in front of the Parade supported by the City’s environmental Super Hero Trash Buster and tinkling by the World’s Only Wind Chimes Band. The parade features over 600 basset hounds in a waddle that raises money for the Tri State Basset Hound Rescue League, impersonators of legendary commedians representing the Abbott and Costello, Marx Brothers, W.C. Fields and Laurel and Hardy Fan Clubs, an army of colorful costumed characters from across the country led by Rapid T. Rabbit of New York, Elwood winner of the World’s Ugliest Dog title but really a sweet, endearing pooch, clown brigades, a pirate brigade, marching soccer players, the Ghost Busters,an array of bands let by the Pitman Hoboes and much, much, more.
The Parade starts at noon on April 14 at 6th and Asbury Ave.,proceeds to 12th and Asbury, turns to the Boardwalk and ends at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorln Terrace between 8th and 9th Streets. It is capped by the PieAsco where folks sit in grand stands in front of the Music Pier and when the signal is given smoosh each other in the face with shaving cream pies in a tribute to the late, great Soupy Sales, a Doo Dah celebrity for many years.
If this isn’t enough information, call the Public Relations Office, 609-525-9300 or email msoifer@hotmail.com. Shown here with the kitchen sink is Mark Soifer (center) founder of Ocean City’s Doo Dah Parade with his good friend Clint Campell 27 years ago, Courtney Huff of Ocean City Community Services and Jim Mallon, director of Commnity Services.
