OCEAN CITY — Beginning this month, the Repertory Theater will bring Cabaret music to Ocean City.
“Musical Mondays, our upcoming Cabaret series, will combine music from several genres including blues, jazz, pop with Tin Pan Alley, Broadway and Hollywood,” said Flossi Micciolo, producing artistic director of the Repertory Theater.
The first night of the series kicks off Nov. 22 with local favorite Andrew Hink on piano with accompanying guest vocalists.
“Cabaret focuses on vocals,” Micciolo explained. “The lyrics are the most important element. Our performers will be telling a story through song.”
All performances will be held at the Repertory’s black box theater at 813 Asbury Ave., located in downtown Ocean City.
“The black box theater is considered by many to be a place where more ‘pure theater’ can be explored, with an intimate focus on the story, writing and performances rather than technical element,” according to Micciolo. “It is a perfect setting for the kinds of shows the Repertory Theater performs.”
Musical Mondays performances will be held each Monday evening from Nov. 22 through Dec. 20. Shows will start at 7 p.m. Tickets will be $10 at the door and reservations can be made by calling 609-457-6686. A dessert reception will follow each performance.
“The goal of the Repertory Theater is to create extraordinary productions and programs that excite, entertain and engage our community and nourish a lifelong passion for theatre,” Micciolo said. “I think this series will be a wonderful addition to the offerings downtown.”
Ocean City Repertory Theatre is a not-for-profit organization. Micciolo notes that the Musical Mondays series is being sponsored by the Thomas H. Heist Insurance Agency.
The series is the first of several productions planned for the holiday season.
Local child actors are currently preparing for “Santa’s Missing List,” a holiday show about an elf who steals Santa’s infamous list. Performances for that show will be held Fridays and Saturdays from Dec. 3-18 at 7 pm. Preparations are also underway for performances of “A Christmas Carol,” which will be presented Dec. 17 and 18 at 8 pm.
The Repertory Theater is also planning a “Christmas Eve Celebration” Dec. 23 at 7 p.m.
