Ocean City Pops Perform and Broadcast with From The Top

OCEAN CITY – The Ocean City Pops Orchestra, William Scheible, artistic director, performs and broadcasts with the nationally renowned NPR program From The Top on Wed., Aug. 31 at 8:00 p.. The concert takes place at the Pops’ historic performance venue, The Music Pier, located at Moorlyn Terrace and the Boardwalk. For the past decade, From the Top has been the preeminent showcase for America’s best young musicians. Through award-winning NPR and PBS programs, online media, a national tour of live events, and education programs, From the Top shares the stories and performances of pre-collegiate musicians with millions each week. Each program provides a compelling and entertaining window into the world of a diverse group of young people, who pursue life with passion, determination, and joy.
The taping in Ocean City will feature Amy Semes, violin, age 16 from Broomall, PA, Kevin Sun, piano, age 18 from Carmichael, CA, Jacob Hernandez, trumpet, age 18 from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Austin Huntington, cello, age 17 from South Bend, IN, and The Polaris Quartet, comprised of four talented teenaged string players. They will be performing music composed by Bach, Vivaldi, Dvorak, and others both with the POPS and accompanied by host Christopher O’Reilly.
From the Top’s Emmy Award-winning PBS television series was launched in 2007. The show connects with a broad audience and is praised by teachers and parents as “accessible, educational and entertaining,” with “real kids” and “real value.”
Over the years, From the Top has featured prominent guest artists on its radio and television programs including Yo Yo Ma, Hilary Hahn, Bobby McFerrin, Midori, Béla Fleck, Joshua Bell, Sir James Galway, Michael Feinstein, and more.
