NORTH WILDWOOD – You better watch out….You better not cry…You better not pout – I’m telling you why… Santa Claus is coming to town. It is true; Santa will be vacationing in North Wildwood in the next few weeks. He has again decided to spend the day with the North Wildwood Beach Patrol to spread a little jolly cheer throughout the North Wildwood beaches on Saturday, July 26, 2014 during the annual Christmas in July event.
Starting at 1 p.m., Santa and his helpers will be at the 2nd Avenue Inlet area and will travel south to 26th Avenue during the afternoon. Joining Santa will be his Christmas in July Musical Band. As always, Santa & his helpers will be passing out candy canes to all of his friends. Children of all ages will like this free event which is presented by the North Wildwood Beach Patrol.
The North Wildwood Beach Patrol was established by Mayor Harry Hoffman in July of 1914. The first female guards were hired by the NWBP in 1986. Guards work a five-day week with an option to work a sixth day. Patrols were also smaller in earlier years. In 1946, North Wildwood had 14 guards with one man per stand. Today, it has 65 with nearly every stand seating two guards.
