Two exceptional artists came together for an extraordinary Labor Day exhibition at Ocean Galleries – Viktor Shvaiko and Thomas Stiltz.
Viktor Shvaiko paints in a realistic manner that defies neat labeling, incorporating threads of Classicism, Romanticism, and Impressionism into a signature style that is unique and instantly recognizable. Having grown up surrounded by the beauty of the wilderness, Shvaiko developed a penchant for painting little cafes and other intimate places, which have become his trademark.
After a highly successful career in photography and graphic design, Thomas Stiltz began his career as a painter in the mid-1990s and was drawn initially to the still life genre, with early influences such as Cezanne, Vermeer, and the Spanish still life painters of the 1600s. Stiltz uses an old world technique of applying many layers of glazed oil paint, which gives color intensity and depth to wonderful visions that express the pleasures of sight, taste, sound, smell, and touch.
Artwork from the exhibition will be on display through Sunday, September 14, 2014 at the Stone Harbor location of Ocean Galleries (9618 Third Avenue).
