Morey’s Piers to Host ExtravaGREENza

By Press Release

WILDWOOD — Morey’s Piers will attract an estimated 15,000 scouts and school students to the Wildwoods for a good time and a good education during Morey’s annual Beach Jam Scouting Adventure returning Friday, through Sunday; Morey’s Education ExtravaGREENza on June 3 and 4; and Morey’s Beach Bop for Cub Scouts, Brownies, and Daisies on June 5.
Not only do these events bring many first time visitors from the region to the Wildwoods, but the area serves as an appropriate “classroom” for teaching the “Green Life,” oceanography and aviation.
“We wanted to take advantage of our Cape May County environment to provide something of an environmental experience for our group events this season,” noted Merideth Fiorucci, director of Group Services at Morey’s Piers.
“So we teamed with Atlantic Cape Community College, Stockton College, the Wetlands Institute, and the Naval Air Station Wildwood Museum to develop interesting and worthwhile programs that relate well to our region.”
The annual “Education Extravaganza,” which attracts students in grades five through 12, was rebranded “ExtravaGREENza” with a new focus on “Living the Green Life,” featuring a series of two “green themed” workshops designed to raise student awareness concerning the need for alternative forms of energy production and a more eco-friendly footprint.
For Beach Jam, the annual scouting event, Morey’s Piers joined with the Wetlands Institute of Stone Harbor to continue the popular Oceanography Merit Badge Program, along with the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum to offer a merit badge program in aviation.
