WILDWOOD – Morey’s Piers promises a memorable Memorial Day Weekend, beginning with the unveiling of a major new “mystery attraction” on Saturday, May 29, and ending with a Curley Fry Festival on Memorial Day, featuring a Major League Eating Contest at 1:00 p.m. to mark the opening of Joe’s Fish Co.
The much-anticipated new “mystery attraction” will be revealed to the public on Saturday, May 29 at noon. The secret attraction opens on the site of the old miniature golf course, located on Morey’s Mariner’s Landing Pier. According to Jack Morey, “the attraction is a completely immersive experience that will be the longest attraction on the boardwalk, lasting nearly half an hour, and has not been seen on the boardwalk in 33 years.”
On Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, Morey’s Piers marks the opening of a contemporary boardwalk family restaurant known as Joe’s Fish Co. with a Curley Fry Festival, featuring a Major League Easting Contest. The contest starts at 1 p.m. and runs for 90 minutes. The contest, sanctioned by Major League Eating, offers $2,500 in cash prizes in an all-you-can eat contest featuring Curley’s famous crinkle cut French fries. Headlining the contest will be the newly appointed #2-ranked eater in the world, Bob Shoudt of Royersford, PA. Shoudt has won eight eating titles in nine months and is now known as the “Notorious B.O.B.” after shedding his “Mr. Humble” moniker late last year. Flying in to challenge Shoudt will be #4-ranked Pat “Deep Dish” Bertoletti, a mohawked chef from Chicago who holds world records in more than twenty-five different foods.
Joe’s Fish Co., under the direction of Executive Chef Wally Jurusz, will emphasize local and regional finfish and shellfish but will also offer a variety of non-seafood items. Entrées include brick oven pizzas, hearty salads, sharable appetizers and Morey’s famous “Curley Fries.” In addition, sandwiches like panini, burgers and wraps will be served. Joe’s Fish Co. will also offer a variety of drink options. Besides a selection of sodas and the boardwalk’s celebrated “Lemon Shake Up,” there will be bottled and draft beers, wine by the glass and bottle, and Joe’s Fish Co.’s signature drink, the Margarita.
