WILDWOOD — The amusement park family that’s always looking for a new way to entertain its guests has come up with a unique spin on breakfast.
Morey’s Piers is now offering breakfast service on its Giant Ferris Wheel, allowing diners to enjoy their eggs and juice 156 feet above Mariner’s Landing pier.
“It’s an idea we tried out last year when IAAPA toured the East Coast parks last year,” said Janice Morey, wife of Morey’s Piers president Will Morey, explaining that IAAPA stood for the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions. “It really went off well for the group so we decided to try it for the public this summer.”
According to a release, the idea originated from the mind of Morey’s Piers founder, the late Will Morey Sr.
Janice and others from the Morey family joined members of the media on Thur., July 22 for a sneak peek at the new breakfast offerings.
Executive Chef Walter Jurusz developed a seven-item menu that could hold up to the windy conditions atop the Wheel — and it can get pretty blustery up there. The menu includes: Smoked Salmon Scrambled Eggs, Shrimp and Lobster Omelet, Freshly Made Belgian Waffle, Cheese Omelet, Jersey Tomato BLT with Fried Egg, Steak and Egg Scramble, and Granola, Fruit and Toast.
All items are substantial enough not to blow away. They’re served on heavy china plates with silverware on white linen tablecloths. Breakfast is also served with juice, coffee, pastries and all necessary condiments.
Anyone who’s ridden the Wheel before might be wondering how the Moreys managed to fit dinner tables into the gondolas.
“We had our carpenters retrofit the tables into the cars,” Janice Morey told the Herald, citing the snug fit. “They did a great job.”
When diners slide into the gondola, half of the tabletop is already in place. Once they’re seated, Morey’s employees slide the other half down and lock it firmly into place. Tablecloths are held down with wedges and the table is set.
Once four or five gondolas are set and breakfast is served, ride operators spin the Wheel so that the breakfasters are stationed at the top, they dig in and enjoy the incredible view of the Wildwoods and beyond.
Looking at the view from the top of the Wheel, Janice Morey told the Herald she expects this to be a special-occasion event for most guests.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if we had a few marriage proposals up here,” she said.
Seating for this unique breakfasting experience is limited.
Morning meals on the Wheel are available on the following dates: July 30-Aug. 2; Aug. 6-9; Aug. 13-16; and Aug. 20-23. Seating is available at 15-minute intervals from 8:30 a.m. until 9:45 a.m.
Prices are $75 for one or two guests; $110 for three guests and $145 for the maximum four guests. Gratuity is not included.
This experience is the latest from Morey’s Piers, which has already introduced several other new attractions this summer including the haunted Ghost Ship adjacent to the Wheel and Joe’s Fish Co. restaurant on Morey’s Surfside Pier.
