COURT HOUSE – The “Monday Night At The Movies” series on the big screen at the Performing Arts Center of Middle Township resumes in January with two acclaimed, full-length documentaries: one about boxer Muhammad Ali and one about magician Ricky Jay.
“The Trials of Muhammad Ali,” which probes the complex life of the controversial boxer, will be shown on Jan. 13, and “Deceptive Practice: The Mysteries and Mentors of Ricky Jay,” about one of the world’s greatest living magicians, will be shown on Jan. 27. Both are at 7 p.m. and admission is $8.
The Ali film, directed by Bill Siegel (nominated for an Oscar for his direction of “The Weather Underground”), examines how one of the most celebrated sports champions of the 20th century risked his fame and fortune to follow his faith and conscience. The film has been lauded by critics as “fantastic’’ and “an incredible viewing experience.”
“Deceptive Practice…,” more than a decade in the making, focuses on the achievements of Jay, a noted author and historian as well as magician, beginning with his apprenticeship at age 4 with his grandfather, Max Katz. It includes footage of his one-man show as well as stints with Steve Martin and David Mamet .
The 1,000 seat Performing Arts Center is situated at 212 Bayberry Drive, Cape May Court House, one, mile east of exit 10 of the Garden State Parkway. There is free parking on the premises.
