COURT HOUSE – The multi-purpose Performing Arts Center of Middle Township, which has hosted various events from circus acts to opera, will turn to art for three weeks when it exhibits the works of the winners of the county’s 11th annual National Arts Program.
PAC, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary later this year, will display the talents of a wide variety of the county’s artists in the lobby of the state-of-the-art facility from April 17 to May 10. The contest is sponsored by the Cape May County Culture and Heritage Commission and is one of only three of New Jersey’s 21 counties that are prresenting the nationally sponsored and acclaimed program, the other counties being Camden and Union. It will mark the fifth straight year that PAC will have hosted the event.
“The Performing Arts Center lobby is an ideal place for exposure of art works because it is visited by many people who attend our concerts or visit the box office during the week,” said Kay Aspell, managing director of PAC. “Among our mission is the goal to provide a variety of cultural attractions for the public and art certainly fulfills that ambition.”
Last year PAC set a new mark by attracting more than 50,000 people to its events. Aspell said judging from early attendance and its busiest season yet to come that mark may be surpassed in 2012.
The exhibit will formally open with a reception on Tues. night, April 17, from 7 to 9 o’clock at PAC. The art may be viewed by the public at regular box office hours during the week or on the nights of performances.
