COURT HOUSE – Fans of foreign films will have an opportunity to see a warm French drama when the Performing Arts Center of Middle Township continues its Monday Night at the Movies series at 7 o’clock on March 10.
The film, “The Well Digger’s Daughter,” which has English sub-titles, has received high acclaim from critics for its story, warmth and performances. It is the story of a single father and well digger, whose teenage daughter falls in love with an air force pilot and puts the family’s reputation at risk. The father then must make a crucial decision about the fate of his child.
Los Angeles Times critic Kenneth Turan described the movie as “the kind of film they don’t make anymore, only here it is.” Citing its “grand romance, light comedy and superb performances,” the Minneapolis Star Tribune called the film “a love story of surprising joy.”
Kay Aspell, managing director of The PAC, said the showing of the full-length, foreign film on the theater’s huge screen is part of a series of diversified movies that have included documentaries with subjects ranging from bee keeping to comedy in the Catskills.
“It is our intent to offer films that are not usually available In Cape May County,” she said.
The series, which runs into April, is being presented in conjunction with advertising agency ProMedia Group of Middle Township. Admission is $8. Call 609-463-1924. The Performing Arts Center is situated at 212 Bayberry Drive, Court House, one mile east of exit 10 of the Garden State Parkway. There is free parking on the premises.
