COURT HOUSE – The Performing Arts Center of Middle Township will begin to make local dance history when it hosts the first of 14 national, regional and local dance troupes that will perform during a period between March and August. The performers, totaling in the thousands, will comprise the largest number of dancers to appear at The PAC since it opened 23 years ago.
Seven of the troupes will present regional and national competitions on The PAC’s state-of-the art stage while seven other local dance companies will showcase their students in special shows.
The series opens on the weekend of March 6 and 7, when On Stage New York brings its company to the arts center. The following weekend from March 13 to 16, Star Systems Talent of North Carolina will take center stage at The PAC.
Both are appearing here for the first time as part of national tours. On Stage New York held opening regionals in Sewell and Orlando, Fla. and will hold its “national grand finale” at Hilton Head Island in South Carolina from July 20 to 24. Star Systems opened its regionals in St. Louis, Phoenix, and Albemarle, N.C. and will conclude with nationals in June and July in Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach and Panama City, Fla.
Kay Aspell, managing director of The PAC, said The Performing Arts Center is “a natural fit as the county’s dance center, given all of the dance companies situated in Cape May County, its central location, free parking and modern, up to date theatre.”
The public is invited to attend any of the ongoing competitions during the day or evening. There is no admission charge. Call 463-1924 for further information.
