COURT HOUSE – Every contestant will be a precious winner April 27, at 4 p.m. when the Performing Arts Center of Middle Township hosts its first Miss Precious Gem Pageant for special-needs girls between the ages of 11 and 18.
Fourteen girls from South Jersey have registered to participate in the history-making event, and regardless of where they finish in the final judging, each will receive an award including a tiara, flowers and a certificate of accomplishment. The contest will feature three age categories and the grand prize winners of each category will be given a scholarship.
“The goal is to help these girls gain self-esteem, confidence and motivation while meeting new friends,” said Faith Miller, Director, Precious Gem Pageant, 2014. “We want to create a world of magic and a lifetime of memories for them.”
While the event is not officially endorsed by the Miss America organization, it does have a connection. Their mentors have coached them in the various competition categories including interviews, personality, talent, casual and evening gown wear and stage presence.
The event is open to the public. Admission is $20 with all proceeds going for scholarship funding and the costs of the pageant. The Performing Arts Center is situated one mile east of exit 10 of the Garden State Parkway, There is free parking on the premises.
