COURT HOUSE – This has been a big year for dancing at the Performing Arts Center of Middle Township as it hosted five national and regional competitions, as well as seven local recitals as part of its four month dance festival.
Kay Aspell, managing director of The PAC, reports that a total of 6,508 dancers graced the stage of the arts center during the events which began in April and conclude the week of July 13 to 18, with national competition in various categories. Contestants came from as far west as Ohio, as south as North Carolina and as north as Massachusetts.
“We are honored that these companies have chosen our state-of-the-art dance theatre as the site for their competitions,” said Aspell. “It is especially pleasing that they attract thousands of people to this area to enhance the tourism economy.”
One of the companies, On Stage America of Bethesda, Md., brought a record setting 948 young dancers to the PAC for a national contest. This came on the heels of another On Stage staged recently in Orlando, Fla. which attracted 500 dancers. The festival closer, On Point Dance Company of Hillsborough, NJ, will present a national competition here for 800 entrants.
In addition, The PAC has been the venue for seven local dance companies to showcase their talents in annual recitals. They include Crest Dancers, Dancers Two, the Joanne Reagan Dance Studios, Dance Dynamics, the Jersey Cape Dance Studios, the Art of Gymnastics and Cheer and the Cape May County Performing Arts Academy.
