COURT HOUSE – While school sessions will not resume until Sept. 3, the Performing Arts Center of Middle Township will be very busy in August as it continues a full lineup of cultural events ranging from orchestral music to theater, nostalgia and magic.
The PAC is part of Middle Township High School, and its dual-purpose is to first serve the students of Middle Township and secondly to host other cultural activities at the 22 year-old, state-of-the-art facility. During July, it hosted thousands of visitors from as far west as Ohio as part of its four-month dance festival.
“It was the biggest month in the PAC’s history with our parking lot filled every day with cars from out of the state” said Kay Aspell, the center’s managing director.
The summer programing continues on Saturday night, August 9, when pianist-conductor Linda Gentille brings her Jersey Shore Pops Orchestra to the PAC in a “Broadway on Tap” concert featuring former Rockette and Broadway show dancer, Melissa Giattino, and award-winning tenor, Ron DeStefano. The orchestra returns on Saturday night, August 23 at 7, with a concert, “Great Balls of Fire,” highlighting the music of Liberace, Barry Manilow, Jerry Lee Lewis, Billy Joel, Elton John and Roger Williams
The PAC will be alive with the voices of more than 60 talented youngsters when they present the Broadway show,” The Little Mermaid,” Aug. 14 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Aug. 15 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. It will be the highlight of the third annual theater summer camp, presented by Shore Productions, for youngsters between the ages of seven and 18. The campers have been rehearsing since the end of June at The PAC.
Magic and comedy will come together on Monday night, Aug. 18, at 7 when long –time magician Doc Swan presents his hilarious family show. He has been performing for 35 years at circuses, fairs and at Disney World.
A nostalgia trip will be offered on Wednesday night, Aug. 20, at 7:30, when The PAC presents an encore version of Tony Sands ”The Rat Pack Together Again,” reenacting the days of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. The show was presented here last fall and is back by popular demand.
