COURT HOUSE — If you have long wondered how many of those famous nightclub comics got their starts, then the place to find the answer will be the Performing Arts Center of Middle Township on Mon. night, Feb. 10.
The PAC, in conjunction with the Pro Media advertising agency of Middle Township, will present at 7 p.m. the hilarious documentary “When Comedy Went To School.” It traces the history of comedians who started on the road to stardom in what was known as “The Borscht Belt” in The Catskill Mountains.
Featured in the film are such celebrated comics as Jerry Lewis, Sid Caesar, Jackie Mason, Mort Sahl and Jerry Stiller. They tell of their experiences and offer some of the jokes that made them famous.
The one hour and 17 minute film is part of the PAC’s “ Monday Night At The Movie Series” which runs into May. It is being shown on the Performing Art Center’s big screen.
“These showings, which we began last year on a twice a month basis, offer local movie fans an opportunity to see highly-acclaimed cinema that rarely is available in Cape May County,” said Kay Aspell, managing director of The PAC. “They have covered topics from chess to magic, and in some instances, we have had guest speakers who discussed the films afterward.”
Tickets are $8. The Performing Arts Center is situated at 212 Bayberry Drive, Court House, one mile east of exit 10 of the Garden State Parkway. There is free parking on the premises.
