NORTH WILDWOOD — The North Wildwood Beach Writers’ Conference planning committee announced that Michelle Dawn Mooney, the charismatic news anchor of NBC40 out of Atlantic City, will be keynote speaker at this year’s event, June 7-8 at the Wildwoods Convention Center.
Why news anchor at a writers’ conference?
Maybe you didn’t know, but now you do, Mooney is a talented songwriter, as well as a singer. In addition to performing, she’ll be discussing her creative process that lead to fulfilling her alter-career.
Surprised? Don’t be.
The conference offers much more than sessions on traditional genres: from novels, to poetry, and yes, even books starring doodle-characters.
Other presenters include actor and screenwriter Gayle Stahluth of Cape May and New York, and historical mystery writer Cordelia Frances Biddle of Philadelphia.
Mother/daughter authors Jane Rubino and Caitlin Rubino Bradway (who also works for a literary agency) will hold a workshop on writing query letters, limited to the first 15 who sign up.
Charis Conn, contributing editor at Harper’s, will conduct a “first-page critique,” which was hugely successful last year.
John Riddle, author and founder of “I Love to Write Day,” will evaluate manuscripts — for a fee — for those who submit them early.
We will also have children’s book authors, an author who will talk about social networking to promote books, a prolific novelist/journalist, a poet, a publisher, and more.
We expect 75-100 attendees. Two meals are included in the program: continental breakfast and sit-down dinner, both on Wednesday. There are two writing contests with cash awards.
This event has been inspiring writers every year since 2003. Fan us on Facebook to see who loved it in years past, and who’s planning on attending this June.

There’s also a discount for registering early, so what are you waiting for?
