Many Events, Activities Will Take Place on Community Day in Sea Isle City

SEA ISLE CITY — On the morning of May 16, Sea Isle City’s 6th Annual Community Day will take place at the Community Lodge, 300 JFK Boulevard, between 10:00 a.m. and 12 noon, hosted by Mayor Leonard Desiderio and the City’s Administration. On Community Day, the public will have the opportunity to meet with City department heads and other municipal officials, learn about Sea Isle’s many civic groups, safely destroy personal documents, and speak with representatives from a variety of organizations. There will also be an awards ceremony, face painters, a free art project for children, and other family enjoyment on Community Day – including the chance to sign-up for summer recreation programs and learn about Sea Isle’s many seasonal activities.
At 9:00 a.m. on May 16, City Council will hold a regular public meeting at City Hall, 4501 Park Road. Then, Mayor Desiderio will lead the annual Community Day Bicycle Auction in the Community Lodge parking lot starting at 10:30 a.m. Those wishing to purchase bicycles during the auction must pre-register on the morning of the event starting at 9:30 a.m. There is no rain date for the bicycle auction.
Numerous local businesses will also participate in Community Day, including First Bank of Sea Isle City, which will offer free document shredding in the Community Lodge parking lot from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Additionally, representatives from Jugglefish Gallery and Art Studio will host a hands-on children’s art station, employees from SIC Cruisers Bike Shop will perform free bicycle inspections and offer safety information, and instructors from Surfside Fitness and Atilis Gym will lead mini fitness classes during Community Day.
The Sea Isle City Police Department will offer free bicycle registrations and plenty of safety information, and the Cape May County Sheriff’s Department will inspect children’s car seats and offer free children’s fingerprinting. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Explorers and “McGruff” the Crime Fighting Dog will be in attendance, and officials from the Sheriff’s Department will also offer information about Project Lifesaver.
Sea Isle’s Volunteer Ambulance Corps will offer free blood pressure screenings on Community Day, and members of Saint Joseph Church’s Nurse Program will offer health information.
Sea Isle City’s Garden Club will host their annual Flower Sale at Dealy Field on Community Day – and there will also be flowers for sale at the Community Lodge on the morning of May 16.
Inside the Community Lodge on Community Day, Mayor Desiderio will honor the winner’s of his “2015 Do the Right Thing Award,” which honors local residents who perform good deeds in the community. Also, representatives from First Bank of Sea Isle City will present their annual Community Partnership Award – and a sizable cash donation – to a local civic organization; and the Sea Isle City Chamber of Commerce and Revitalization will honor the recipients of their 2015 College Scholarship Awards.
Also inside the Community Lodge, City representatives will have information about the City’s upcoming Property Revaluation; and FEMA representatives will be on hand to answer questions.
