MAC Carriage House Tearoom to Close for the Season

By Press Release

CAPE MAY – The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) has announced that it will close its Carriage House Tearoom & Café at the Physick Estate at the end of the month, two months ahead of schedule. MAC’s early closing of the Tearoom is part of a broader strategic restructuring in the face of an extremely challenging economic environment (compounded by the severe adverse financial impact of Hurricane Irene and its aftermath). By paring back less profitable operations like the Tearoom, MAC will be in a stronger position to continue its core preservation, educational and cultural enrichment missions that include:
• the on-going maintenance and operation of its three historic sites – the Emlen Physick Estate, the Cape May Lighthouse and the World War II Lookout Tower (Fire Control Tower No. 23);
• interpreting the history and architecture of the Cape May region for Cape May’s residents and visitors through trolley, walking, boat and house tours;
• enriching Cape May’s cultural scene through the annual Cape May Music Festival;
• offering free educational outreach programs to thousands of area schoolchildren;
• sponsoring special tours and events from February through December that extend the Cape May tourism season.
A MAC team is currently considering a range of options for offering food service at the Physick Estate’s Carriage House for the 2012 season. Interested parties are encouraged to send proposals to MAC Director Michael Zuckerman at mzuckerman@capemaymac.org.
The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) is a multifaceted not-for-profit organization committed to promoting the preservation, interpretation, and cultural enrichment of the Cape May region for its residents and visitors. MAC membership is open to all.
