VILLAS — It’s summer, and that means it’s Jersey Fresh time especially here in Cape May County. In order to buy New Jersey’s freshest produce, many quality-conscious shoppers visit a farm market.
On Fri., July 9, Lower Township Farmer’s Market opened at 2600 Bayshore Road, from 3-7:30 p.m.
It offered an array of locally grown vegetables, fruit, honey and more will be featured weekly on Fridays through Sept. 3, according to Margaret Vitelli, purchasing agent.
The market offered more than just fresh fruit and vegetables; it offered music, as will those weekly market times. On opening day, The Bullets band provided entertainment.
“We have all type of farmers,” said Vitelli. “We are promoting Lower Township Green Team that began this year.”
Among the group’s aim will be promotion of recycling and by offering an easy way for local shoppers to get Jersey Fresh, locally grown crops.
On opening day, 24 vendors were present offering a variety of goods and merchandise.
Annie Mullock was event coordinator, said Vitelli. “She has done an excellent job along with Lower Township Recreation Department. She was the driving force getting them together,” she added.
“Mayor Michael Beck and township council have been extremely supportive as has the township manager,” added Vitelli.
Situated near Lower Township Recreation Center, and ringing the parking lot there, were the vendors. Also part of the venue was the pavilion with vendors placed along the outside of the grass.
