By Press Release

CAPE MAY – Begin your Earth Day Celebration early on April 6, at 6 p.m., by attending the meet the artist reception at Harbor Gallery at the Nature Center of Cape May located at 1600 Delaware Avenue in Cape May . Recycle, reuse, repurpose or upcycle. whatever you want to call it, local artists, Pam Huber and Susan Zipper use broken, discarded bits of glass, beads, ceramics and furniture to create amazing mosaic works of art.
Susan Zipper considers her artwork her own personal way to “Live Green”. “Using furniture, findings, bits and pieces that are destined to become trash challenges my creative instincts and somewhat satisfies the desire to have fun,” explains Zipper. “Beside the fact that I enjoy smashing china. Mosaics, particularly in the “pique assiette” style, appeal to my appreciation of pattern, color and texture.”
Pam Huber uses many different materials to create her mosaics. Her creative spark can come from stones from the beach, shells, melifori, broken pottery or beautiful stain glass. Her latest mosaic style is inspired by a workshop she attended by Laurel Skye. “The process is so forgiving, I’m always pleased with the outcome,” explains Huber. Pam Huber also teaches mosaic classes along with her sister Robyn who is also a mosaic artist .
Some of the pieces exhibited are purely decorative, while others such as the colorful switch plates and mirrors by Pam Huber or the bird baths by Susan Zipper are functional as well.
The exhibit will continue through the end of the month. All artwork is for sale, with a portion supporting the Nature Center of Cape May. Light refreshments will be served. For more information call (609) 884-2736.
