OCEAN CITY – Learn how composers work at the February series of free music lectures by Paul M. Somers, sponsored by the Bay-Atlantic Symphony.
In a hands-on class, you will discovery how composers create and set their musical thoughts on paper. This class is designed for people who do not read music, and will rely on the drawing of simple designs by all the participants.
The lectures, which will take place in four counties, will occur on Feb. 11, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., at the Ocean County Library, Little Egg Harbor Branch, 290 Mathistown Rd., Little Egg Harbor Township; Feb. 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Ocean City Public Library, Room 110, 1735 Simpson Ave., Ocean City; Feb. 21, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the Margate Public Library, 8100 Atlantic Ave., Margate; and Feb. 25, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., in the Community Event Room of the Vineland Public Library, 1058 E. Landis Ave., Vineland
Subsequent lectures this season will explore folk literature in composed music in March, as well as a question-and-answer session in April and a Fresh Ears® experience in May.
Somers, Adult Education Director for the Bay-Atlantic Symphony, is a also a composer, performer, founder of Maurice River Music, was for 25 years the harpsichordist for the Virtuoso Strings of New York, and was a reviewer for the Star-Ledger.
