COURT HOUSE – Linda Gentille and The Jersey Shore Pops are proud to present their 7TH concert of the 2013 Jersey Shore Pops Summer Concert Season with “Music of The Glenn Miller Orchestra!” This high energy big band concert will take place on Aug. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the orchestra’s home theater of the Middle Township Performing Arts Center.
The Pops will present their first big band concert of the season with this Glenn Miller tribute show which will include all of Miller’s top hits. The pops will present the original Miller arrangements of “ In the Mood”, “String of Pearls,” “ Tuxedo Junction”, “ Pennsylvania 6500”, “ American Patrol”, “ Moonlight Serenade”, “ St. Louis Blues”, “ When Johnny Comes Marching Home”, “ Chattanooga Choo Choo”,” Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree” plus some original arrangements in the style of Miller. Special guest vocalist Jacklyn Buckingham will join this production with a Glenn Miller classic “At Last.”
One of the featured musicians in the orchestra for the tribute to Glenn Miller is trumpet player Clifford Buggs of Cape May. Buggs was born in Georgia, raised in Florida and came back to New Jersey 8 years after boot camp to take advantage of an opportunity to lead the Military Band in Cape May. In the 18 years that followed his return, as much as his duties allowed, Clifford sought out many musical paths. Clifford is a writer and arranger and will soon head for the studio to begin his first personal CD project. He has performed as a soloist and side man behind Aretha Franklyn and with the great lead singer Peter Cetera of (Chicago) in Atlantic City. Clifford Buggs’ own Quintet performed at the Somer’s Point Jazz Festival. He played the Somer’s point jazz festival with Carl Granieri, the Cape May Jazz Festival with Howard Issacson the Late Great Oscar Brown, Jr. and also the Late Great Tim Eyermann. Clifford has performed at private parties and concerts with many fantastic local band leaders in NJ, DE, DC and PA. including Carl Grainer, Robin Vanduzee, John Bryant and Howard Issacson.
The Jersey Shore Pops is a big band orchestra with string section, modeled after the orchestras of the Frank Sinatra era which featured a string section along with the bid band sounds. The orchestra was founded by entertainer and conductor Linda Gentille in 2009. The orchestra features 25 of the finest New Jersey musicians either born or based in New Jersey. Many Philly Pops fans have become season ticket holders for the Jersey Shore Pops because of the reasonable ticket prices and great production value of the shows.
What has made the Jersey Shore Pops the most successful new big band orchestra in New Jersey is Gentille along with her unique on stage showmanship. As a major headliner, she has performed on stages around the world. Pops president Dr. Nick Holland sums it up:” Gentille’s unique musical style of conducting while performing amazing feats on the piano has made this a must see show in Cape May. Her unique and original orchestrations sets her apart from all the other pianist conductors in the nation.”
The orchestra will present the last show of the season the following week on Aug. 17 with Sinatra and Friends starring Peter Oprisko.
The individual tickets will range from $25 for balcony seating to $40 for VIP orchestra center seating. Tickets at the door will increase to $30 -$45 so advance purchases are encouraged to avoid long will call lines.
