By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – Middle Township Performing Arts Center has announced that tickets for the The Jersey Shore Pops are now on sale and are available by phone, website or in person at the Middle Township Performing Arts Center. The 2010 Jersey Shore Pops season opens on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 with a celebration of the great movie themes with “CINEMATASTIC”. The concert will feature conductor and pianist Linda Gentille and will include music from such great movies as ‘ Titanic”, “The Lion King”, “Beaches”, “ Flashdance”, “Fame”, “Westside Story”, “Somewhere in Time” and “Breakfast at Tiffanys.”
The season continues with the following concerts: Saturday, September 18, 2010: “GERSHWIN RHAPSODY”; Saturday, October 16, 2010 “ THE BROADWAY TENOR”; and the season finale Saturday, November 20, 2010: ‘WINTER WONDERLAND.” The orchestra has invited soprano Mary Lou Robinson and Broadway Tenor, Colm Fitzmaurice to be guest soloists this season.
The Jersey Shore Pops is the first new orchestra formed in the county since 1997. The orchestra was founded by pianist and conductor Linda Gentille. JERSEY SHORE POPS was formed in the style of PETER NERO and THE PHILLY POPS, but with a big band component. Gentille states “ I have always loved visiting The Philly Pops and thought it would be fantastic if people could have a similar, more affordable and convenient concert choice down here at the shore! The main difference is that our orchestra has more brass for a focus on big band arrangements.” With the average price of a ticket for the Philadelphia based orchestra being $80, The Jersey Shore Pops (with a ticket price of $20) is a wonderful affordable option for South Jersey residents.
The Jersey Shore Pop’s repertoire will be primarily The American Songbook, Broadway and American Big Band era music. The orchestra is a New Jersey non-profit corporation and is comprised of musicians from all over South Jersey. Season tickets have been reasonably priced for the debut series at only $60 for the four concerts. The first 100 season ticket purchases also include the opening night “VIP MEET THE ORCHESTRA AND CONDUCTOR RECEPTION” which will begin at 6:00 PM prior to the concert.
Linda Gentille, conductor and music director of the Jersey Shore Pops, has become an international piano star. She has performed over 1000 concerts worldwide and currently performs 6 months a year on such luxury cruise lines as Princess, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. Some of the talented orchestra members include Clifford Buggs, (Bass), renowned trumpet soloist and former leader of the military band in Cape May, John Drechen (Trumpet), Jim Yester (Bass), Angela Guido (Trombone), Ted Blohm (Trombone), Karen Tangney (Violin), Jim Tangney (Guitar), Mike Denice and Walt Palmer on Saxaphone, Clarinet and Flute.
The director of the Middle Township Performing Arts Center, Kay Aspell, invited the orchestra this year to make the center the official home. Aspell comments, “We here at the PAC are so excited and honored to have the Jersey Shore Pops make their home here. We feel this fantastic orchestra will help bring in a whole new audience to our center.. We know they will sell out in 2010.”
