Historic Cold Spring to Host Free Spring Lecture Series

By Press Release

CAPE MAY – Historic Cold Spring Village’s 12th Annual Spring Lecture Series takes place on four consecutive Wednesday evenings in March and April. The lectures begin at 7 p.m. in the HCSV Welcome Center and feature noted New Jersey historians discussing their latest works. There is no fee for admission but donations are appreciated. Speakers will be available for book signings and a meet and greet after each presentation. Featured presentations for the 12th Annual Spring Lectures Series are:
March 18 – Author Russell Roberts examines fascinating but little-known facts from our state’s past in his newly-published book Rediscover the Hidden New Jersey.
March 25 – Join Tim McGrath as he discusses his recent book Give Me a Fast Ship: The Continental Navy and America’s Revolution at Sea, the gripping tale of the tiny Continental Navy’s valiant fight against Britain’s Royal Navy, the largest fleet of the era.
April 1 – Author Barbara Solem explores the iron town and center of glassworking in her book Batsto Village: Jewel of the Pines.
April 8 – Land titles are sometimes sources of amazing stories. Title expert and historian Joseph Grabas looks at some of the tales he has uncovered in his book Owning New Jersey: Historic Tales of War, Property Disputes and the Pursuit of Happiness.
Historic Cold Spring Village is a non-profit, open air living history museum that portrays the daily life of a rural South Jersey community of the Early American era. Its mission includes the preservation of 26 historic Cape May County buildings, history education and promoting heritage tourism. The Village is a museum for all seasons. During the summer months, interpreters and artisans in period clothing preserve the trades, crafts and heritage of “the age of homespun.” From October to May, the emphasis is on teaching history through school trips to the Village, classroom visits by the education department and interactive teleconferences with schools throughout the United States. The Village is located on Route 9, three miles north of Victorian Cape May and a mile and a half west of the southern end of the Garden State Parkway. For more information, call (609) 898-2300, ext. 10 or visit the Village website at www.hcsv.org.
