CAPE MAY — “Harboring, Cape May” is the title of an exhibition of Janet McShain’s paintings at Mad Batter Restaurant, 19 Jackson St. through Sept. 15.
A reception was held for the Dennisville artist on Aug. 15.
McShain spent four years watching Cape May Harbor. She has seen the Nature Center of Cape May growing along with the interest in kayaking and walking the harbor. She was asked many times, “Don’t you get tired of painting the same spot?” In reply she would say, “How can a plein-air artist get bored with seasonal and weather changes, from ice floating to summer storms building, people passing, birds migrating and the antics of osprey and sea gulls playing?”
Sails, up or down, give her subjects, as does the Cape May County Veterans Memorial Bridge over Cape May Canal, working boats from the Cold Spring Dock and Lobster House, to give color and connection to harbor-scapes.
