OCEAN CITY – Faline and Bella, Guinea Pig siblings from Northfield, will vie in the Ocean City Quiet Festival’s Lettuce Chomping Challenge on Sat., Nov. 12 starting 10:30 a.m. at the Community Center’s Senior Auditorium, 17th and Simpson Ave. The event is part of the Festival’s competition for quiet pets, those that never have had the opportunity to display thier prowess. It will also include white mice and hamsters.
The Guinea Pigs will be judged for speed and volume in the eating contest. There will also be categories for liveliness, personality, and costumes. Faline will be coached by Sara Durante and Bella by Alma and Eliza Durante. There have already been numerous entries in this division.
The White Mice and Hamsters are nocturnal and normally sleep during the day which makes them ideal for a Quiet Festival. They will be judged for unusual sleeping positions, appearance, disinterest in their surroundings and snoring.
HALT RESCUE,The Cumberland County Humane Society and Pet Smart will participate in the event. The band Amber Blue will entertain during the program.
The Pet Competition will be followed by a folk concert at noon featuring noted instrumentalist, Lew London and Simthsonian recording artist, Jim Albertson at the Community Center.
Other programs on Sat. include quietly making items out of beads ,noon, Potomac Bead Company, 910 Asbury Ave. and free copies of quiet poems at Sunrose Words and Music, 756 Asbury Ave. all day.
The Quiet Festival runs through Nov. 15. All Festival events are free.
