Girlfriends’ Getaway Weekend Slated in Cape May

CAPE MAY – It’s springtime and you’ve spent more than enough time cooped up in the house with the kids and the significant other. It’s time to dig out your spring wardrobe, call your best girlfriends and head to Cape May on Fri., April 20 through Sun., April 22 for Girlfriends’ Getaway Weekend — the perfect combination of food, wine, shopping and fun, sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC). Take your pick of these great activities to spend some quality time with the girls.
Start your weekend in elegant style at the Friends of the Physick Estate Fashion Show & Tea at the Carriage House Café & Tearoom on Fri., April 20, at 2:30 p.m. On the beautiful grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., you’ll enjoy a delicious light afternoon tea in the garden tent with your girlfriends while floor models show romantic, Victorian-style fashions from Cape May’s Uniquely Yours. Reserve your place in advance for this event sponsored by the Friends of the Physick Estate. Tickets are $25 for members of the public or $20 for Friends of the Physick Estate. You can become a member and get this and future programs at low or no cost.
New in 2012! Lunch & Antiquing by Trolley begins Sat., April 21 at 12 p.m. when you hop on board a MAC trolley at the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., and head to Aleathea’s at the Inn of Cape May, 7 Ocean St., where you will enjoy lunch with time to browse for antiques at the Inn of Cape May. Then, it’s back on the trolley as you embark on an afternoon of crafts and antiques shopping with stops at West End Garage, 483 Perry St. in West Cape May; TreeHouse Antiques, 742 Seashore Road in Cold Spring; and Cape May Antique Center, 1228 Route 109, in Cape May. The trolley returns to the Physick Estate at approximately 5 p.m. Tickets for the afternoon are $30 which includes lunch and transportation; parking is free at the Physick Estate.
Ready to enjoy an afternoon of sipping, sniffing and swirling? Relax with the girls over a glass of wine at the Cape May Winery, 711 Townbank Road as you take in a Winery Cellar Tour & Tasting on Sat., April 21 at 3 p.m. Take a stroll to see how the grapes are grown and then learn about the winemaker’s art as you enjoy a barrel-tasting accompanied by cheese and fruit. Tickets are $20; the event is limited and reservations are required.
On Sun., April 22 at 9:30 a.m. it’s time for Brunch, Bingo & Lace as you join the lovely ladies from Lace Silhouettes/Cotton Company for a fashion show and enjoy a delicious breakfast at Aleathea’s at the Inn of Cape May, 7 Ocean St. Laugh along with your girlfriends as you play a little bingo and win some great prizes. Tickets are $25; the event is limited and reservations are required.
