Friends of Physick Estate Host Trip to Winterthur Museum

CAPE MAY – Due to popular demand, the Friends of the Physick Estate are hosting a second bus trip Aug. 13 for members of the public to visit the nationally renowned Winterthur Museum in Wilmington, Del., and see a special exhibit featuring actual costumes from the Masterpiece Theater series “Downton Abbey.”
The trip includes a guided tour of the museum’s main rooms. Visitors can also view the museum’s Campbell Soup Tureen Collection and other gallery exhibits, stroll the beautiful gardens, and visit the museum shops. A highlight of the trip is a special exhibit featuring original costumes from one of the most popular public television series in history, “Downton Abbey.” The first Friends’ trip on May 14 to see this special exhibit was very popular and sold out quickly.
“Costumes of Downton Abbey” is an original exhibition of exquisite designs from the award-winning television series. Forty historically inspired costumes from the television show are displayed and supplemented by photographs and vignettes inspired by the fictional program and by real life at Winterthur so visitors have the chance to step into and experience the world of Downton Abbey and the contrasting world of Winterthur founder Henry Francis du Pont and his contemporaries in the first half of the 20th century.
The trip is Aug. 13. The bus departs from the Bayshore Mall, 3845 Bayshore Road, North Cape May (on the side close to the Big Lots store) at 8:30 a.m. and returns at 5 p.m. Lunch is on your own at the Winterthur Museum cafeteria. Board the bus at 8:15 a.m.
