COURT HOUSE — Music lovers will soon have an opportunity to attend a free concert featuring young singers and musicians who have been praised for their potential in the world of music.
Called “Starz of Tomorrow,” the concert at the Performing Arts Center of Middle Township on Aug. 2, at 7:30 p.m. will include among its cast students from the Juilliard School of Music, the Manhattan School of Music and the Eastman School of Music.
Stone Harbor resident John L. Curto, a long-time advocate of the arts, is producing the innovative concert to bring the youths’ talent to the public’s attention. “I want to showcase them locally before they achieve more prominence. I decided to produce this free concert so that local audiences may get a preview of the bigger things to come from these talented youngsters,” said Curto, a retired high school English teacher from Philadelphia. “I chose The PAC because it is the ideal state-of-the-art facility for this type of programming.”
Curto’s artistic and music director for “Starz of Tomorrow” is pianist-violinist Joseph Mohan who is pursuing his bachelor’s degree at Juilliard. Mohan has already performed with the Ocean City Pops and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. He has won numerous national and international competitions as a pianist, and was one of six students featured on the PBS documentary, “Piano Forte.”
Three others who have credentials with the Ocean City Pops will also perform. They include violinist Min Jae Lim, a Juilliard student; baritone Jarret Porter who attends the Eastman School of Music and soprano Lexis Petrella, a student at the Manhattan School of Music.
Other performers will include Alyssa Sullivan who finished fourth in the nation as a “Broadway Singing Star” in a national competition on the Great White Way; baritone Conner Wynn who will soon travel to Germany where he will be performing in an international opera festival in the leading role of “Rockin’ Mozart,” based on Mozart’s first opera, ”Bastines Bostino”; award winning opera singer Jay Dreff, a recent graduate of Juilliard who has been a soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra; drummer Jeremy Smith and bassist Corey Chutzer, both of Juilliard.
The program will highlight music from Broadway shows, including “My Fair Lady,” “The King and I,” “Guys and Dolls” and “South Pacific.”
